This is an Eragon based fan fic of my OCs Rinilya and her dragon. This takes place following the events in all four books but all rights are reserved to Christopher Paolini as this is his book series. All others mentioned belonged to their respective owners. Enjoy!

Chapter 1-Discovery
Ellesmera was alive with the sound of melodies and symphonies, high to low notes that seemed to echo among the trees carrying on for miles. The forest was lively with large and small animals coming from their homes in search of food or drink, some awakened from their long slumber. Spring had finally arrived bringing with it the promise of warmer weather. It seemed all the elves of the elven capital were all in preparation of this time of year, working to make the forest of Du Weldenvarden healthy and strong. Even the trees that had stood for hundreds, thousands of years seemed to be alive. Any would have been drawn to such songs, wondering to where the source lied yet the magical wards protecting the ancient forest prevented as such.
However not all seemed in such a festive nature. One such person was a half elf half human teenager wandering the thickly grown forest, far away from that of Ellesmera. She was elegant an graceful in her movements but not quite as that of the normal elf. Lean and well muscled, her skin a light tan, face slightly angular but not as sharply as many elven women, and her eyes were the same shape of a human and dark brown. She wore a traditional forest green tunic-dress made of lamarae cloth, a fabric which was made by cross-weaving wool and nettle threads. At the waist she also wore a thin leather belt that sported amethysts woven into it.
Rinilya was not one to usually participate in the celebrations her elven kin did. Much preferring the peacefulness of the forest then that of the cities. often she felt like an outcast to both elves and humans alike. Her mixed features though almost made her more human then anything, for her ears weren't even pointed and she didn't entirely resemble closely to the elves, save for her angular face and slightly feline appearance and fluid motions that were clearly inhumane.
Crouching near the creek that cut through the forest Rinilya listened as the songs seemed to echo, bouncing off the trunks fo the trees as if in a cave. "What use are the songs if the forest is flourishing as it is already?" She murmured to no one in particular.
For the longest time she seemed to crouch there, none moving, as if there was nothing else to do. But before long she gazed upwards towards the Crags of Tel'naeir then allowed her gaze to move towards the cliffs a little ways from it where a cave hidden by an overhang was located, a former nesting ground for the dragons of the wild int he days before Du Fym Skulblaka or the battle between elves and dragons. It was now known as the cave of Broken Egg and scattered Nest for the elves had once gone to that very place to kill and break the eggs of dragon hatchlings. It was her destinations for the day, just to avoid being forced into helping in the celebrations.
Standing and straightening the wrinkles in her dress she jumped over the creek and took off on foot to cover the brief distance before she finally reached the cliffs pausing for a moment to take in a deep breathe and looked at the steep rocky sides. The sides themselves would be challenging enough, the vast height enough to even make the greatest climber shudder at thinking of how much their muscles would ache and burn. Beginning her climb Rinilya tested each hold carefully before pulling herself up, checking her footing and making sure she did not risk falling. She could use magic to help her, that she knew for like any she could use magic by saying words in the ancient language but dared not now. The drawback was her magic was not as powerful so Rinilya was often careful how much she used otherwise risking great exhaustion or chance of death. By the time she had reached halfway her muscles were cramped, joints aching, and her entire body burning with the effort of climbing.
Breathing carefully she continued to ascend the side until after what seemed like hours but could probably have been only an hour and a half she reached the cave floor, grabbing hold of the ledge and pulling herself up panting at the effort of the climb. Strength greatly decreased she sat there allowing her body a moment to relax before at last turning to gaze into the slight darkness. Luckily her senses were sharp, even as her eyes adjusted she could see fairly well in the dark but it pained her at the sight she saw. What had once been nests were now burned or scattered, what had once been full of eggs were now full of shells faded and broken. Much of them littered the floor. As she began to explore Rinilya stepped carefully and lightly, avoiding the egg remains and some bones or what were left of the nests.
Upon further inspection, Rinilya having found a few large caverns leading off of the main cave she came to find one nest partly intact. But what really caught her attention was something oval shaped, smooth and hard. Curious she approached the nest, making sure to not step on a piece of shell and reached over the large outer rim of the twig built bed made for a dragon to pick up what had captured her attention to which she was surprised to find an egg still intact. It was oval, sooth, and as she tapped it came to find it was hollow, there was no other explanation or name, it was indeed a living dragon egg.
"I have to see this in the light." she murmured, holding the egg in both arms as she moved swiftly back to the entrance of the main cave and stopped as light from the sun began to cast it's blinding rays within.
Holding it out slightly the smooth shell soon was visible, dark purple in color Rinilya was vaguely reminded of an amethyst. Casting her mind out she came in contact with an alien and ancient being, one long since thought to be near extinction which only furthered confirmed the evidence the hatchling may well be alive inside it. Now deep in wonder and simply amazed Rinilya was lost in thought before torn from them at the sound of the beat of wings, two sounds of them. Keeping the egg cradled in one arm and gripping the edge of the cave with another Rinilya crouched to look down at the top of the tees, a flash of ruby red and sapphire blue interrupted the green ocean of tree tops. Realizing who those sounds came from Rinilya was soon hit by the realization that the egg may not be hidden for much longer.
Fear gripped her then for she found herself not wanting to be parted with it which left only one option, keep it until she thought of something better. Looking down she thought of a better way to get down then to climb down and stood reaching for the magic that lied within, "Reisa!" She said loud and clear.
Rinilya found herself lifted off the ground then released the spell, plummeting with the egg in her arms towards the ground and for a brief moment looked as if she would crash before yelling 'Letta' to stop though had to roll slightly to further cushion the fall. Satisfied that nothing was broken, only having some scraps on her shoulder and upper arm did she take off through the forest, dodging trees, branches, underbrush, and creatures she encountered until she reached the entry place of Ellesmera. From a first glance it was hard to make out the buildings for they were infused and made from trees themselves, sung out from songs of the elves to any shape they wished. however as she drew closer she was well aware of the elves gathering excitedly to see Saphira, Thorn, and their riders, Eragon and Murtagh. The half brothers had long since been able to work together again and were working to keep Alagaesia from falling into chaos. And as she drew closer she could hear some parts of their conversation yet took a side route hoping to avoid them.
What she failed to realize though Saphira and Thorn having been watching those coming and going, both taking note of Rinilya as she disappeared. Yet they did not know what her discovery was or what she had been carrying, exchanging quizzical glances. Eragon and Murtagh were also informed by the two, both riders looking puzzled but a silent promise passed between them to investigate this later.
