The Cost of War
Another job, another target, another lost case. Cybertron was falling, the crimes were getting worse, more desperate and more violent. The dark femme had waited until the halls were mostly cleared out, until darkness was beginning to lay claim to the city. She walked steadily through the halls, her wings wrapped tightly around her frame as she moved forward, gaining but a few glances from those who still lingered. It was always the same, most never spoke up to her, just moved out of her way, she was use to it by now, it seemed some of her own side even feared her. Perhaps it was better that way, kept them from getting too close.
She continued forth, pushing open the door to Ironhide’s office and stepping inside. “You have a job for me?” she simply said as the weapons specialist turned to face her. “Yea, gotta target I need fer ya ta bring in.” Ironhide said as he grabbed a file disk and handed it to her, she simply nodded before turning to depart. “In one piece this time Huntress!” Ironhide added. Huntress just looked over her shoulder slightly “No guarantees.” she calmly stated as she walked from the office.
She began towards the exit, placing the disk within one a compartment in her helm as it loaded data onto her visor, scanning over it as she made her way down the hall, once more none meeting her gaze, not as if they could see it anyways. Once she exited the building she spread massive wings and took flight, gaining altitude quickly and checking coordinates, scanning the ground below to find her quarry, a decepticon, a right brutal one as well, according to the data he stayed with a small group, keeping low key most the time and coordinating surprise attacks, the victims often did not survive.
Wiregauge, what a name, but then again considering the reports of how he tortured victims, she had a feeling it was a nickname, not as if it mattered. He was a target and he was going down, that’s all there was to it. After some moments above she matched signatures to what was on file, the source was a small building below, pertly underground it seemed from sensor data. She began her silent down climb, dark wings blending against the early night sky, not so much as a shine nor light giving her away in the growing darkness. She scanned the structure, pinpointing weak points in the alloys as she pulled free Retribution from her back, aiming as she came upon it, aligned with both weak points to punch through both at once before she tucked her wings, angling into the holes she had made.
Yes, they were here, her target and three others. She heard them when their little lair was opened so suddenly, she felt their movements throughout the room on her sensors, they were caught off guard, she had an edge. She threaded herself through both holes, twisting her body to land on the bottom floor, where they were. As she did so she replaced Retribution on her back, Sanity and Chaos coming to her hands, the targets her behind her. She landed on one knee, bending her back and aiming upside down from her possession at the Decepticons within as cannon and gun fire came at her. She angled a force field protected wing to shield herself while shooting from behind it with Sanity, trusting her little gun’s true aim. She twisted to get to her feet as the enemies tried to surround her. They were shouting to each other, trying to coordinate a counter attack, but she wouldn’t give them time. As soon as she was on her feet she began firing, in front of her, to the side, over her shoulder, it came down to both her skills and the aim of her faithful companions, her wings moved to shield most of her frame with the force fields that protected them. One of the Decepticons pulled a bladed weapons and charged at her only to be met with a forceful wing unfurling and slamming him mercilessly against the wall, crushing his smaller frame from the force as she leveled Chaos at his head, one shot, that was all that was needed, she did not hesitate.
Another took the opportunity to jump at her, the ones she was sent to capture, his plasma dagger sinking into Huntress’s shoulder. She reached back, grabbing him by the helm and slung him over her shoulder and to the floor with crushing force as Sanity held on to her wrist, returning to her hand after the throw was completed. No, she couldn’t kill that one, he was needed alive. She aimed a shot with Sanity to his weapon arm’s elbow, blasting a good chunk out of it before turning on another of the Decepticons who was beginning to wear down her wing’s force field energy supplies. Chaos extended his tripod legs to grip tightly to Huntress’s wrist as she extended her arm to grip the decepticon’s neck, metal bending under her fingers as she slammed his back against the wall, Chaos angling to bring his barrel against the Decepticon’s head point blank before firing. Only two more. Huntress retracted her arm as Chaos returned to her hand, her gaze the fell on the other non-target Decepticon, a young mech, the gun in his hand trembling. So young, far too young for this war, far too young and scared to be corrupted so early. “If you run. . . I will not stop you. . .” she said to the young one, were they even older than a sparkling? She couldn’t dwell on that now.
Her focus turned back to her target as she heard the footsteps of the younger mech fleeing from the room. Her target, Wiregauge, seemed he wouldn’t give up so easily. He scrambled to his feet, holding a gun of some kind in his undamaged arm. “Who the slag are you?” he asked, shouted at her, the large femme merely wrapped her wings loosely around her frame once more and brought Chaos to aim at her target. “You have a choice. . .come peacefully. . .or come in pieces. . .” Huntress told him, her tone unwavering still. Wiregauge then fired, there was her answer. She weaved to the side to dodge the shot before aiming both Sanity and Chaos at him, firing rapidly, aiming for joints as she ducked and weaved, using his aim to calculate where the shots would be going, her wings’ force fields were starting to flicker a bit from the shots she did take, damage beginning to show on those matte black wings now as she continued her assault. As soon as it began, it seemed to end with the energon blasts from her twin guns severed the shoulder joint of his gun arm, the gun and the arm holding it then fell to the ground with a clank as the decepticon crumpled to his knees in a cry of pain. Huntress stepped forward, Chaos climbing up her arm and down to her respective holster as the black femme brought her arm back, hand in a fist before aiming a strong, incapacitating punch to Wiregauge’s helm.
As the decepticon fell limb, she caught him and threw him over her shoulder as Chaos returned to his holster. Huntress then retrieved the target’s missing arm and made her way from the building, taking to the air and beginning towards the Autobot base once more <“Target has been retrieved. . .now in route back to HQ”> she sent on the private com to Ironhide. Before long she landed, carrying the Decepticon with a rather dented helm and missing arm inside, heading right towards Ironhide’s office. As soon as she entered she heard what she had expected from Ironhide. “I said in ONE piece!” the weapons specialist exclaimed, but Huntress merely sighed setting the Decepticon and his severed arm down. “He decided to be difficult. . .” she stated turning to the door to depart once more, though Ironhide could be heard grumbling something along the lines of that it was going to take them a while to get anything out of him. Huntress ignored it, her means were brutal but she got the job done. She merely walked from the office and down the hall, wondering just how old that young one she saw in battle had been. Though she did not show it, she regretted that one so young had to see what she had done, there was a time young optics were to never be subjected to such violence. Sadly, however, this war had robbed the innocent of not only that, but of so much more.
