There are several types of Spark-Bonds among Cybertronians and what those bonds can do depends on the type of bond in question.
Creation Bond This is the bond that is forged between a Transformer and their offspring. The "parent" is called the Progenitor while the "child" is called a Sparkling (child/offspring) or Hatchling (newborn/toddler). Through this bond the Progenitor and Sparkling can feel each other's emotional state, intense sensory input (pain/pleasure), as well as talk to each other and send images or memories (as video) to each other. This bond can fade over time if they are separated for prolonged period of time, and if one dies, the other will feel it but will survive, the pain fading to a dull emptiness where the other once was.
Sibling Bond This is the bond that is shared between Transformer siblings; brothers and/or sisters that share the same progenitors. This bond is often stronger between twins than with most other siblings. Through this bond siblings can feel each other's emotional state, intense sensory input (pain/pleasure), as well as talk to each other and send images or memories (as video) to each other. This bond can fade over time if they are separated for prolonged period of time, and if one dies, the other will feel it but will survive, the pain fading to a dull emptiness where their sibling once was.
Gestalt Bond This is the bond that is shared between Transformer gestalt groups. A gestalt is a group of Cybertronians that can transform together into a single large form. Through this bond gestalts can feel each other's emotional state, intense sensory input (pain/pleasure), as well as talk to each other and send images or memories (as video) to each other. This bond does not fade over time if they are separated for prolonged period of time, but the bond can be severed (though the process is painful) and if one dies, the others will feel it but will survive, the pain fading to a dull emptiness where the lost gestalt member once was. If a gestalt member dies, they can replace that member, though the process is difficult and requires cyber-linking between all of their Sparks rather than a full on Spark-melding.
Symbiote Bond This is the bond that is shared between Transformer and their symbiotic companions, often much smaller mechs that often start out as drones that are extentions of the Cybertronian they are connected to. Through this bond symbiotes and their 'host' can feel each other's emotional state, intense sensory input (pain/pleasure), as well as talk to each other and send images or memories (as video) to each other. This bond does not fade over time if they are separated for prolonged period of time, but the bond can be severed (though the process is painful) and if one dies, the others will feel it but will survive, the pain fading to a dull emptiness where the lost symbiote once was. The process of creating a symbiote often requires an Energon surge to the "host" mech and the absorption of raw materials to form the drone symbiote and imbue it with a miniature Spark, often a split off piece of the "host's" own not unlike how certain plants sprout miniatures of themselves, such as with bulb type plants.
Empathy Bond This is the bond that is shared between a Transformer and a human with whom they have chosen to bond. This bond is nearly as strong as that of full Spark-Mates, resulting from two willingly joining with each other in a kind of primal yet very spiritual mating to forge a permanent life long bond that can not be broken or severed. Through this bond they can feel each other's emotional state as well as feel intense sensory input (pain/pleasure) from each other. This bond never fades and is often strengthened every time the pair chooses to couple with each other, and if one dies, the other will feel it as if they are experiencing the pain themselves, often following their Bond-Mate into death. Those who do survive their Spark-Mate's death soon go mad to the point of psychotic and dangerous (depending on the predominant personality traits of the mech in question) from the agony and loneliness without their Bonded Mate.
Spark-Mate Bond This is the bond that is shared between Transformer bonded mates. This bond is the strongest type possible, resulting from two Cybertronians willingly Spark-Melding to forge a permanent life long bond that can not be broken or severed. Through this bond Spark-Mates can feel each other's emotional state, intense sensory input (pain/pleasure), as well as talk to each other and send images or memories (as video) to each other. This bond never fades and is often strengthened every time the pair chooses to Spark-Meld with each other, and if one dies, the other will feel it as if they are experiencing the pain themselves, usually following their Spark-Mate into death. Those rare few who do survive their Spark-Mate's death very quickly go mad to the point of psychotic and dangerous (depending on the predominant personality traits of the mech in question) from the agony and loneliness without their Bonded Spark-Mate.
